Chemical peeling is the cosmetic removal of old skin in order to get new one. This process can also be referred to as chemexifoliation. After this procedure the skin is fresh and less damaged by wrinkles. Each outcome is dependent on the strength of the peeling agent. The skin peeling procedure can be described as superficial or medium. It can also be deep peeling.

Acids known as alpha hydroxyl are the most commonly used for skin peeling. It will, however, depend on the doctor doing the procedure. The superficial peeling allows the patient to go back to work immediately. It will usually take at least fifteen minutes. For deep peeling and medium peeling the patient is not allowed to go outside. This is to allow time for the skin to grow back. This type of peeling can take up to three hours or more. Like most types of medical procedures skin peeling has accompanying side effects.
